Country Stars Mitchell Tenpenny and Meghan Patrick tied the knot at their rustic wedding venue on Sunday, Oct. 23.
The news of their nuptials broke exclusively with PEOPLE the day after their ceremony. The outlet shared that the wedding was held on a friend’s Tennessee farm and featured several special touches from family, including an altar that Patrick built with her father, a horseshoe made by her dad’s foundry, which sat above their heads for good luck, and the same cake topper that used in her grandparents’ wedding.
In addition, the Canadian-born country star presented the groomsmen with boutonnières, which incorporated feathers from birds that she gathered herself.
To make the day even more special, the lovebirds were married by a longtime family friend, Tenpenny’s high school football coach, Scott Tillman.
Ahead of their big day, the couple took a moment to share some words of wisdom that they have learned over the years in regard to maintaining a healthy relationship
“Trust, respect, [and] never stop flirting or dating each other [keep our relationship strong],” they exclusively told PEOPLE. “Fight for each other, not with each other.”
Patrick also shared that they knew that had found their forever partner when they realized, “we could have our dreams and our relationship work together, we are each other’s best friend.”
The couple revealed to PEOPLE that seeing each other dressed in their wedding attire was a portion of the day that they were most looking forward to.
Patrick stunned in her Rue De Seine dress and custom Lucchese snakeskin boots, while Tenpenny sported his own set of boots, jeans, a bolo tie and of course, his cowboy hat.
Together, they took to social media to share photos of their love-filled day.
“I can’t wait to spend forever with you,” the “Truth About You” singer wrote in his caption.
The artists first crossed paths in a Nashville bar when Patrick caught Tenpenny’s eye as she walked in wearing camo. Then, four years later, they returned to the spot that started it all and Tenpenny popped the question to his longtime love.
“I met Meghan here so it was the perfect place — and hey, I got engaged ‘at the end of a bar!’” Tenpenny previously told People, referencing his chart-topping duet with Chris Young.
His proposal had been in the works for a while, as the singer prepared for the big moment by asking Patrick’s father for his blessing when he was in Nashville.
Patrick had a feeling that the Nashville native was going to propose. “With my family coming into town this weekend I thought maybe, because we have talked about this for a while,” she said. “But I did not expect this! This is the most perfect engagement I could have ever imagined.”
Tenpenny admitted to having butterflies prior to the proposal, which ultimately ended in nothing but tears of joy and excitement.
“I had a whole speech planned and it disappeared [in the moment]. I wasn’t able to say everything I wanted to,” Tenpenny admitted. “I was nervous — and relieved. She was crying, I was crying. All I wanted was to hear her say yes!”
“I also thought there would be all these things I would have said,” Patrick added. “And all I could get out was ‘Yes!’ Then we both awkwardly stumbled around trying to get the ring on my finger.”
It may not have gone exactly as planned, but it was definitely a moment they will remember forever.
