Remember When Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina Joined Forces To Sing a Randy Travis Hit On ‘American Idol?’

In 2011, country stars Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery rose to fame on American Idol, where they made their way to the finale to face off for America’s vote. 

McCreery ultimately took home the title of American Idol champ, however, both artists went on to create wildly successful careers in country music. 

During their time on the show, Lauren and Scotty shared the stage for multiple duets, including a rendition of Randy Travis’ hit “I Told You So.” 

The then-teenagers shared the stage for the “I Told You So” duet during the American Idol Top 11 results show. Seated on stools, Lauren and Scotty effortlessly belted out the lyrics to the iconic song in front of a live audience. 

The pair reprised the duet at McCreery’s fan club party in Nashville several years later. 

During a recent interview with Audacy, Scotty recalled the moment he first heard Lauren sing while on the show.

“I’ll never forget the first time I met Lauren Alaina, it was Hollywood Week, and I’m listening to her sing thinking, ‘Oh my God, she is incredible.’ Thinking she’s going all the way, and obviously she did.”

Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery reunited American Idol for the show’s 20th Anniversary in May of 2022.

The pair made their long-awaited and much-anticipated return to the Idol stage for a stunning rendition of “When You Say Nothing At All.” 

McCreery and Alaina showcased their growth as vocalists and entertainers. McCreery’s Southern drawl and Alaina’s powerhouse vocals proved why they are two of the most successful Idol contestants of all time. 

Dubbed “The Great Idol Reunion,” the show also featured performances by Ruben Studdard, Jordin Sparks, David Cook, Kris Allen, Laine Hardy, Laci Kaye Booth, Maddie Poppe, Caleb Lee Hutchinson, Willie Spence and Grace Kinstler.
